Studio founder and owner, Graham Williams
Graham Williams was introduced to Iyengar Yoga in 1993 while living in Crested Butte, Colorado. Diagnosed with scoliosis at age 10, she wore a back brace for six years. Although those years were challenging, they ultimately led her to discover her life’s passion: teaching Iyengar Yoga. She was drawn to the Iyengar method for its precision, structure, and therapeutic potential.
Graham’s early teachers included Cindy Dollar in Asheville, NC and scoliosis specialist Elise Browning Miller, with whom she studied extensively, completing Elise’s scoliosis teacher training in 2004. Graham has been a Certified Iyengar Yoga instructor since 2005 and now holds a Junior Intermediate II certification (CIYT) as well as certification as a Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT). In 2006, she founded the Iyengar Yoga Center of Raleigh, the first and only Iyengar Yoga studio in the Triangle, and became Raleigh’s first Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher. Since then, she has mentored several local teachers through the certification process.
Her commitment to lifelong learning has taken her on three trips to Pune, India, to study directly with the Iyengar family. During one trip, she participated as a patient in the medical classes for her scoliosis, where teachers worked with her using many props to adjust her curve. She has also studied widely across the U.S. with Senior Certified teachers and continues to deepen her practice with Abhijata Iyengar and her long-time mentors, Dean and Rebecca Lerner.
Graham is passionate about helping students experience the physical and emotional benefits that Iyengar Yoga has brought to her own life. She remains deeply grateful to her teachers, mentors, and students who continue to inspire her journey of study and teaching.
